Acupuncture is a complex medical treatment with a history dating back 2500 years. Its main objective is to reintroduce harmony into a person who is mentally or physically ill. This is accomplished by inserting hair-thin needles into points on the body along the energy pathways. The needle placement reestablishes balance by resetting and redirecting the flow of energy.
Herbal medicine is the most commonly prescribed treatment in Oriental Medicine. These medications work with natural processes to strengthen bodily systems, such as the digestive and respiratory systems. For thousands of years Asia’s adults and children have safely taken herbal medications with few mild side effects.
The herbs used at our clinic are of the highest quality and are grown naturally. Herbal medications are taken as teas, pills or granules. Herbal medications are used both to treat and prevent illness.
Cupping involves the placement of glass or plastic specialized “cups” onto areas of the body. A vacuum is created within the cup allowing adhesion onto the body. Cupping is used in addition to traditional acupuncture for a variety of conditions including; pain, muscle tension, trauma, detoxification and colds or the flu.
Moxabustion (also called Moxa) is performed in two ways at Acupuncture Vegas. Moxa is a refined and compressed form of the herb mugwort. It is either attached to or held near inserted acupuncture needles in order to add heat to the system. This results in an increased blood flow to the area helping with the healing of many conditions that result from cold or stagnation, such as infertility, digestive issues and arthritic pain.
Acupressure or Shiatsu is the manual manipulation of acupuncture points with the use of the hands or specialized acupressure devices. Shiatsu can be used in lieu of acupuncture for the needle-phobic. It is also used in addition to acupuncture to target specific muscles for chronic pain conditions.
